My Anti spyware software has detected ADTECH & 2o7 tracking software

Tests have proved that this has come this website

It appears we are not only plagued by adverts

My question to YBW.com is :

are they aware they are hosting tracking software and what they intend to do about it ?

it may be used to feedback personal information from your computer or details of web activity ( sites visited etc )

unlike viruses which are specifically intended to cause damage or at best inconvenience - tracking or adware is intended to make money or provide marketing information without your knowledge

I think the adtech issue regards the ads that appear on the forum pages has been aired quite a lot. Lots of Firefox users use Ad Block to, erm... block the adtech ads.
Surely if they are blocked the tracking will also be blocked?

Quick answers:

AdTech is the platform we use to serve ads. It is a well-known in that field and reputable.

2o7 relates to Omniture, the web analytics package that we use. Again industry standard and reputable.

Our use of all data is governed by privacy terms.

I thought that most commercial websites have counters which often include tracking software, it just gives data on which pages were entered and the route you take through various pages as well as how long you spend reading each page.

Our site uses statcounter and we've never had any complaints, you can see it at the bottom of each page as a counter, you can see what they do here.
Statcounter

There is a huge difference between finding how many times your website is visited, entry pages, exit pages etc. and from detecting the surfing history of visitors to your site.

I monitor my website usage but I would not consider 'spying' on visitors to my site

your bottom line says it all .... Never let the truth get in the way of a good rumour ...

If you don't like the tracking cookies placed here then b*gger off ....

I've been here for quite a number of years and have no ill effects from the cookies ... and no spam in my ybw registered email address either...

Nothing at all I would imagine, and why do you care?

Your own browser cookies are a form of tracking, and I'll bet you have them turned on!

It doesn't matter, best thing to do is ditch the program that gave you the information until you have a full understanding of the implications... /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

It's all pretend.... /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

I have that blocked by NoScript also which is another Firefox add-on.

Unless you allow the ybw cookies it seems you cannot log in, but Adtech belongs to AOL, which has a lousy reputation where I live.
