beware when making insurance claims

Even if you claim direct against 3rd party insurers, you still have to notify your insurers of the accident. Your record shows that although not your fault you are at high risk so, from an insurer's point of view, an increased excess is reasonable. In the event of another no blame accident, the excess would be reclaimable anyway from the 3rd party. I would shop around at renewal.

No knock for knock in boat insurance .A good insurer pays you first and gets you on the water asap.
They will then look at right of subrogation against the other party and keep you informed. If they get all the claim back or agree on a % you get % back if excess deducted.
All rather simple.
Not for the first time Saga are gaga think they are an agent of Haven who come up often on this forum.
Shop around I was with Craftinsure who told me to go direct to the other party insurer what a fuss in the end settled between two boat owners cash over a pint.
Suffice not with Craftinsure any more.

I think premiers in-house insurance has some offer about knocks in the marina not counting.

"No excess to pay or loss of No Claims Bonus if an accident happens in a Premier Marina"

So, perhaps a move to Premier and their insurance??

I tried this some years ago when my boat was rammed when sitting on the mooring. No question of whose liability, the accident was witnessed and blame accepted by the perpetrator. In spite of which it took me the best part of 4 months to get the other insurers to accept liability and eventually, after a lot of correspondence, settle my claim in full.

An acquaintance of mine was hit by a visiting boat in his marina this summer. He sent an estimate to the other owner, who passed it on to his insurer (GJW) who approved the repair two days later, so it can work if the insurers are on the ball.

When the contractor sent their estimate thro and saga approved the quote their letter expressed not to commence work for 7days to allow the third party insurers to inspect the damage , they never did, so they did claim from the third party .
I was naive to think my insurers would save me all the hassle . That's what I thought I had insurance for . Silly me .

They are there to make money. Kindness and efficiency are costed and rationed. That said, if you are hit again you should get the huge excess back from the other insurers. Sounds as if Saga are just trying to encourage you to claim direct and save themselves some work. I don't think I have ever seen a posting about any aspect of Haven which would encourage me to use them.

Insurance companies don't want to know you if you cause claims OR are unlucky!

I had my motorcycle knocked over while parked on its stand twice and other party paid each time but insurance company did want to re-insure.

I am with the insurance company on this one. It takes a lot of work to process these no fault claims, in addition I think you are lucky that the perpetrators were identified and insured. From an insurance point of view they really don't want to have to deal with all this. Are lots of boats damaged in your marina because of tides or something or are you just the victim of a series of unfortunate events?
