Beware of Thomas Cook’s cabin baggage scam.

....The original reference (which I see has now been removed by the poster) was in relation to batteries for a hand held drill - not in quite the same league as the ones that might have been related to the fire in this incident.
This is why LiFePO4 batteries for boats - see Mastervolt - are maybe a bit of a dodgy idea at the moment. They will be getting even more expensive as now the manufacturers have to do more to make them less flammable. Otherwise they look like a fantastic solution - even at their very high cost. See this forum for more:

In a few years when the electric car industry has expanded batteries as we know them now may be totally different.

Tranona, just go and look up battery explosion on youtube. Its not the size of the battery that matters, is it, its the size of the fire it causes. (how big is a Swan vesta?)

There haven't been any catastrophic meteor strikes recently. Does that mean there is therefore no danger? Very strange logic, that.

I think you'll find there have been numerous near misses on battery fires in baggage. Thankfully...

nb. It seems to be LiIon batteries that are the culprits, not NiCad or NiMH which is probably what's in the electric drill.

Thanks for this post. It's interesting. Let me share you this airline fee. Luggage charges likely only to get worse. Airline fees like baggage charges are a hassle. They only make the already substantial pain of air travel worse. However, they are not likely disappearing, as it is harder for airlines to make a living these days. Any additional fee can affect any traveler's funds.

this thread is very interesting to me...Thomas Cook is the only airline I have ever written an official complaint about. I am 6' 4" and had to literally squeeze myself into the seat which must surely contravene some Human Right legislation somewhere....never ever been on a flight so uncomfortable. Honestly it makes me laugh how much stick Ryanair get but their legroom and comfort is bl**dy luxurious in comparison to T Cook.

More bloody spam.

Good Morning,

I'm doing this route in a couple of weeks and wondered how much the taxi will cost? as my other option is a one way car hire.

thanks Lynne
