Beware Morris Oils K99 grease

I found that the K99 in my remote greaser had separated, oil above the plunger & a solid mass on the pressure side.
The solid mass had to be purged by removing the stern tube end & coiling the nylon hose in hot water with the plunger pressure applied.
I have changed to Keenol, twice the price & time will tell.

No, changed product.
the remote greaser is in a locker away from heat as well.

Surely that has not been available for years ? Ramonol white grease usually suggested as the alternative.

Keenol was made by Duckhams. No information about this stuff . No tech stuff. No nothing.

Let us know how it compares with the old Duckhams stuff and Ramonol

the seal seem to be tight enough & i applied great pressure to force the thick grease fillers out of the pipe, in fact i used mole grips on the handle & split the nylon hoes just below the greaser housing. This is when the boiling water came into play. nothing above the plunger at that time

Is there a particular reason why one would use water-resistant white grease rather than water-proof brown calcium grease for this application?

OK .... that's surprised me a bit but I don't doubt your research.

Just wondered because I've just removed the remaining white marine grease from my rudder bearings and replaced it with the waterproof calcium grease which I think you told me about. I've still kept the tin of white grease on the boat and may well continue to use it on stuff that is not in contact with water but otherwise I've switched to the brown.

I'm a huge fan of Ramonol my stern gland nearly makes it all season without refilling, to top that, it no longer drips, runs cool and is generally well behaved

I use Morris Oils K99 grease for every greasy application on boats. I know there are better products for some particular applications but don't consider it worthwhile to carry several different cans. Morris Oils K99 grease is a good all-rounder and I've used it on sternglands without the problem described.
