it blocked my engine intake solid. i failed to pick up a mooring as I didn't want to over use the dry exhaust, in the end I anchored opposite Clamp Hse in shallow water.it took the dinghy pump to clear the skinfitting & the strainer gauze was jammed with it.i had just cleared it & picked up a mooring to check things & clean the anchor, when a man from Kent went passed, claiming to know me

Yes I was expecting the same when I went up to Pin Mill on Weds, you have reminded me. I didnt know what to do,to steer round all of the clumps was too intense and would have doubled the mileage. Then I thought, steam straight through it at full RPM,but that wasnt much fun either. So I stopped the motor and ghosted up on the tide, better late than never. Surely the local peasants used to row out and gather it for fertilizer or something, where are they now?

much of it is "in suspension" so a cumulative process

This exact thing happened to me in Portsmouth Harbour recently. I ended up disconnecting the tube from skin fitting to strainer and the blockage was at the fitting/seacock. My question is, have you fitted a t-piece or similar to aid using the dinghy pump ?. Getting the tube off the skin fitting and strainer was a real pain ........

If it's a Vetus type it has inlet/outlet holes the sameish size as a dinghy pump, cheers for the top Roge.

Both a friend and myself have suffered the same problem this week. Just spent half any hour clearing the seacock out on a mooring off Levington.

Bad luck Simon can't believe this has blighted you after all your engine woes. Hope you are sorted now.
The river looks a tad clearer than a couple of weeks back. Not sure if the bloom has now happened and being flushed with successive tide cycles? Ben
