I may be wrong but....

When I have previously checked Easyjet flight prices on the web, the price shown was stated to be inclusive of charges and taxes.

Checking LPL - Faro tonight, the prices looked loads cheaper than jet2 from Manchester.... but when I had selected the specific flights and clicked for prices, it added taxes and charges.

Looking back at previous pages, they now state that prices do not include taxes and charges.

I was beginning to consider Easyjet, even though it's a PIA to get to Liverpool from manchester for a 6.15am flight, but not anymore!!

Be warned

yes i have noticed the same, they changed it a couple of weeks ago. thought it was a bargain until i went to the check out. they also include insurance in the price.

Most airlines do the same..... I have used Jet 2 from manchester since September, but have been singing the praises of EasyJet because of their transparency.

I have avoided easyjet due to the hassle of getting to Liverpool Airport but I was considering a quick trip with EasyJet just to check the boat and deliver a bit of stuff... initially I was impressed with the prices, but was cheesed off when I discovered that they are just like everyone else now.

Cheers

They don't include the taxes in their prices because the taxes change all the time at the whim of the government.

The impression I get is that their pricing structure is such that prices can change on a daily basis, (or even with each booking), for each flight, dependent on demand. If they are sophisticated enough to deal with their own price changes, it should be a doddle to make the occassional change for taxes and charges.

so not really a valid excuse.

Anyway... I wasnt necessarily complaining.... they are now the same as most.

I was merely warning those who might use Easyjet regularly, and rattle through the pages based on past experience.

My other half accidentaly bought insurance she didnt need because the "Yes" option is selected by default.

Cheers

Richard

of course they change on demand, often on hourly or minute basis. That's how airlines have operated for many many years, not just the low cost ones.

correct - yield management - flights getting full and therefore popular price goes up. 2 years on a flight to Madrid I beat the system wanted 4 tickets, bought 2 then 2 days later another 2

Most flight booking web services now use a system that tracks your sessions via your IP address and/or cookies on your PC. Keep surfing their site and the prices start to climb.

That's interesting. So, me being on dial-up, if I were to disconnect and redial (as well as clearing my Private Data and cookies) then I shouldn't be recognised by the tracking system?

I understand that and the taxes are self-explanatory. It's the additional, unexplained, 'charges' that bug me. If these are essential and charged by the airline then they should be included in the price. If they are charged by some other body (for example, the airport or a regulatory authority) then they should be explained. If they are non-essential then they should either not be charged at all or be voluntary (as is the new checked baggage fees that Ryanair has decided to impose).

I don't understand how they justify it. It would be like booking a train ticket and only at the end the company would tell you about all the charges they have to pay over to National Rail etc... Or buying a coach ticket and then at the end they'd add on any tolls. We'd not accept that so why do we do so for airlines?

Marc.

Well, I may be wrong too but.........

I have been using Easyjet for years and have always known that their initial quote has not included taxes.

Of all the budget websites the only one I can find which gives the gross charge is skyscanner.net however, there is a catch and that is when you press the check prices button the "live" price often increases considerably.

Also, perhaps Twister Ken can direct me to the part of the Easyjet Website which enables us to 'opt out' of insurance? The only reference to insurance on the Website is that provided - at extra cost and as a seperate transaction - by Mondial.

When you go through the booking procedure to arrive at a final price, you'll find a sum added for insurance, which you can choose to opt out of and recalculate the price. In the days when I knew about such things it was called 'inertia selling'.
