Beta with Volvo saildrive

Anybody with experience of using a beta engine with a VP saildrive?

Yes - I run a 28hp with a 110S - 7-8 years now - no real issues that I know of.
Beta pushed a plate onto the saildrive and sorted out the mounts when I initially installed (they offered this as a service)
Only theoretical issue is gearing is not quite ideal - engine is held by the prop at about 2600-2800 rpm (engine theoretically revs to 3600)
Spoke to Beta bout this initially and they reckoned the engine was fine running like that (working hard enough and getting hot enough)- so I didn't even change the prop in the end
Generally run at about 2000 rpm which gives me pretty much hull speed and good fuel economy
Seems to work for me

It will work, but you may have to change the prop depending on which reduction ratio you have. However, perhaps not a good idea to link a new engine to such an old drive, which has now been out of production for over 10 years. No replacements are available and a new drive cost more than an engine. Probably better to do a deal for a complete new package, engine and drive which will fit more easily and you get the benefit of the better drive and new diaphragm. You should get a good deal from Volvo at this time of year.
