The stop solenoid on my Beta 10 engine has stopped working (or works but has only 2mm travel on the rod which is not enough to stop the engine.)

I guess Beta can supply another one but is this likely to be a standard item that I can pick up from a motor factor? Details on the item are
16851 60011
652600-4530
12V 12D
Denso
Made in Japan

A Google search hasn't turned up much. I'm betting the forum can do better ....

Thanks in advance.

Ian

Is the Beta Kubota based like the Nanni, if so try your local hire shop as a lot of small plant engines are Kubotas. Im sure they can help and it could be a lot cheaper.

I had a similar problem on my old Beta 20, disconnected the solenoid from the stop lever, removed the rubber cap and manually worked the plunger in and out while working some WD40 down the plunger. The amount of crud that came out surprising. Gave it a thorough soaking then blew the excess WD40 out and refitted - worked fine after that. - No need to replace it.

Might be worth trying on yours before spending more beer tokens.

The fact that it is working at all suggests that the electrics are OK and the problem is mechanical. Something needs freeing up. Have ago before buying!

Thanks - to you and to Cliff in an earlier reply - for this suggestion. I should have said in my original post that I had taken the thing off and tried freeing it but it seems to come to a hard stop at each end of its 2mm travel: I'd have expected a softer stop at one end if something were gummed up.

I've currently got Yellow Pages open in front of me, following up Chris Hall's suggestion of plant hire companies: thanks Chris.

Did you manage to get a replacement?

Our unit on a 5 year old Beta 10 is just the same as yours.
Having taken the covers off the solanoid there is no sign of any contamination. All is clean.
Just 2mm of movement.

Replacement prices range from £80 (Kubota agent) to >£110 (includes 10% discount, Beta Marine) ... so I'm in no hurry to replace.

Like you, I took the cover off at the end where the rod comes out and it all looked clean. There was, however, a little distortion in the plastic covering of the coil and this was enough to prevent the iron bulb on the rod running cleanly. I shaved off a little of the plastic and got some improvement but still not enough so I've started thinning down the iron bulb. I've not finished yet but the early indications are promising.

I'll let you know how I get on.
