BETA ATOMIC 4 engines. Opinions please

I am looking to replace my Vire 7 petrol with a Beta Marine Atomic 4 diesel twin cylinder 13.5hp engine.

Has anyone any experience of these - reliability, etc?

All info gratefully received prior to getting quotes.

Hi Steve!

Many thanks for that info. Despite the large number of members of the Vega Club there seems to be only one query on this engine in the forum.

That one comment is really nothing, just about a sacrificial anode which appears to have carried out its duties properly and sacrificed itself.

I find this quite amazing and encouraging when I read the comments on the Yanmar and other engines. The Beta appears to be a trouble free marine engine - a species I haven't come across before!

I've recently fitted a Beta engine. Not an atomic but a BD1005.
You'll find the staff and support excellent. The engine itself is only a month or so old but from hearing of other peoples experiences it's a safe bet.
I would recommend you discuss your requirements with Beta though as things like engine panel size can catch you out.
(Only thing I found wrong was the spares pack had come with the incorrect air filter size.)

Glad to be of help. The Atomic is only called taht as it has the same feet spacing as the old Atomic engine. Go for a standard Beta BZ482 unless your engine bearers need the Atomic 4 spacing. If you want nay further details then dont hesitate to call me by email on:

Hi Steve.

As far as I can see the 482 is the same as the Atomic 4 replacement engine but with different, wider, feet arrangement.

If this is the case, why is the former rated at 10hp and the Atomic at 13.5hp with the same cc?
