I purchased a Beta 38 at the end of 2014. Just recently I noticed water dripping from the raw water pump drip holes behind the impeller. I took it to bits and found a bit of crud on the shaft which I cleaned off. This was obviously interfering with the water seal so I thought I'd get a new one. Beta told me I had to buy a seal kit which comprised of the water seal, a tiny V seal, two O-rings, and a short length of plastic spacer tube. This came to £37.50 which I thought was a bit extortionate considering all I wanted was the water seal. Does anyone know where I can get hold of these from anywhere a bit cheaper as I'm sure it will go again. As a side note, I could find a kubota manual for the engine but nothing for the pump.
Thanks

You may be able to buy the seal from the likes of Bearingboys or other bearing supplier.
You may need to re-use the old spring if the new one isn't stainless?
Some people replace the spring with a thin o ring, or even go without.

I had this same problem a couple of years ago, spoke to Beta, a new pump was about £80 from memory so I bought a new pump and then replaced the seals and bearings on the old pump and it's now sitting on the boat as a spare. I got the bearings and seals WITH stainless springs, using simplybearings.co.uk good price and next day delivery. Incidently the new pump was a Johnson whereas the original was a Jabsco, which was B***** expensive if bought from the Jabsco website!

Have had a look for seals. I believe mine is 12 x 24 x 4.5 which doesn't seem to exist. The nearest being 12 x 24 x 7. Will keep trawling though. May have to try the Chinese sites as they seem to have a lot of stuff. As far as the pump is concerned, I think a new one of these is around £300. I don't think the pump is either Jabsco or Johnson. Beta have their name on the cover plate but I cannot find anything similar yet.

It's probably one or the other and may have identifying markings somewhere, although the manufacturer often puts theirs on the cover plate :ambivalence: Beta's parts book, which you should have or can download, may clarify. As PetiteFleur implies, Beta switched pump manufacturers on at least some engines a few years ago. Your 2014 engine is, I suspect, quite close to the change, so you could have either.

Surely its either Jabsco or Johnson both parts available from ASAP supplies
the impellers for both are interchangeable
Also its the same Jabsco as fitted to the 4108

whilst ordering get spare rear wear plate & cam too

There's a picture of the pump on page 14 of their spares manual and it doesn't look like any of the Jabsco or Johnson pumps. I did an image search on both. Later on there's a picture of a separate seal for the pump but when I asked I was told I had to get the kit.
