Hi,
My Beta 14 has the original v section engine/water pump/alternator pulleys. I've suffered the black dust and short-lived belts scenario for a number of years. I don't want to upgrade to the Beta polyvee longitudinal belt kit yet, so I'm keen to try a lateral ribbed belt as a cheaper and simpler option. Can anyone with experience of fitting the ribbed belt on a Beta 14 or 16 give me advice please ? Did it work? If so what supplier did they use and what is the part number. Or if I have to provide measurements, which ones please?

I replaced the belt on my Beta 20 with a toothed belt several years ago and the black dust problem disappeared. Can’t remember where I bought it - probably Beta - but shouldn’t be too hard to match the size if you don’t want to buy from them.

Gates branded 'cogged' belts are pretty good.
There are several different sections of V belt.
The RS catalogue is a good link to the data sheets etc.

Gates or dayco Extra duty belts.

Make sure your pulleys are clean and rust free.

I took one off a generator the other day that had been on for a 1000hrs
