Beta 13.5 into a Sadler 26

Hi Folks,
I have decided to replace Bukh 10 probably with a Beta 13.5. Well nearly as Nanni are still same on price. Based on the good feedback I see here re beta I'd like to choose them. If any of you have already done this any advice would be welcome.
Beta tell me that all I need different from standard package is the shallow sump. With a 2.6:1 gearbox I have been told I can keep my 14x11 prop by non-Beta expert?
I've done some basic measuring and beds are too low. Feet are about 10mm inboard of bukh feet. What is the best material to raise them?
Another 26 owner used a down angle gearbox so I must see how this would work for mine.
Any other surprises you can think of?
From the research I've done sofar on forum there seems to be a huge variation in prices though whether the inclusion/exclusion of vat accounts for this I'm not sure. I'm very open to pm's on this

I replaced an old Volvo engine with a new Beta on a previous boat
Can't remember which way round it was but the Beta standard gearbox rotated opposite to the Volvo.
It was cheaper to fit new prop and shaft, than to change the standard Beta gearbox and use existing prop.
Also Beta provide feet to fit other engine footprints, you may not have to modify engine bearers - check with Beta.

Am currently installing Beta 16 into Tomahawk 25. Ordered shallow sump but found normal sump would have fitted. Bought engine in LBS, about £200 difference on 13.5 to 16 HP.
Suggest you make up a "wooden engine" and try for size. Beds too low probably better than too high. I used aluminium angle bolted to beds as my beds were too narrow.
You can always glass on top of beds and set bolts into glass. Beta has a clockwise turn of shaft out of gearbox viewed from stern.
Check your prop shaft and cutless bearing for wear. You might as well as your engine is coming out. You might need to change prop shaft as lengths may differ.
I only mention this as I have changed everything from skin fittings,water stop, anti syphon, new exhaust, seacock, shaft.cutless bearing and seal.I elected to go with 2-1 gear ratio as my 14x12 prop is getting on. I'll try it and if it's not right I'll probably change next year.
Approximately £500 on top of engine price excluding prop so far. Obviously with out my and a good friend's labour.

thanks guys. I'm planning to change all pipes, cutlass bearing as suggested. Am tempted by 16hp but its probably overkill for my boat. I hope to keep the prop and it will remain righthanded and use savings to install good quality sound insulation.
