The paint inside Ameera's cabins is grotty and peeling. What is the best way to remove it from the fibreglass to leave a smooth finish for repainting?

And following on - what's the recommendation for good white mould-resistant satin or gloss to withstand the damp and poorly ventilated interior of an underused yacht?

And to improve the ventilation - I'm thinking about putting one of those solar powered vents in the companionway washboard - do they work?

TIA for your thoughts, Neddie

This may not be relivent to your boat. I cleaned off the interior useing a degreacer and high pressure wash.Mine was very moldy indeed green & black which wouldent come off.

Then dried and cleaned everything before painting with ordinary paint. The special paint cost a fortune & was i told hard to brush paint.Done with care & time thined properly and enough coats it looks alright.

To stop the mold and stains just keep the interior warm & dry!!!!!!!

If you want to try useing "outside house paint" just try a small area first to see how you feel about the result

For Removal----an abrasive pad in a 4 1/2" angle grinder. Can't remember what they are called but type "strip paint removal angle " into e-bay search for an example. Should find similar at any decent DIY shop. Works quickly and provides ready to paint surface. Only snag is it all comes off as dust.
I'm sure "Dulux" is fine for most interior boat jobs-----but on the other hand, how many tins will you need and how much cash will you save compared to ,say,International? After all the filthy toil of preparation it would be a shame to spoil[possibly] the job for £15-20. Actually I'm so tight myself I'm amazed I just said that!
