Alan, you could extend the wire before fitting and make the join to the loom in an easier place. I guess Ruffles was referring to no-load voltage vs voltage with current flow. A high resistance joint will allow full voltage open circuit measurement but drops it to near zero if a load is connected.
Thanks. The isssue is that the wire is sealed into the unit, and needs to be threaded immediately into the pushpit, round a couple of corners and out the bottom. Should be accessible under the pushpit leg (assuming and thread it that far) but won’t reach where the factory fitted wiring is joined. Looks like factory had special units.
Joining in the reasonably dry under deck beats joining in full flow of the salt water on the bow.
Yes, get the point about no load and with load. But as you have previously confirmed, the current load of a single LED light should be peanuts. Hence it is primarily a question of getting a good join and keeping water out. Which the advice here is all helpful with.
PS The location ain't too bad. I am sure any good crew would be happy to strip the headlining off at the front of the bow cabin and solder above their head going to windward in an F6. Only question whether needs done to aircraft or telecoms standards?
