What is the best way to kit out a new boat in Greece for family of 4. I mean everything from wet weather gear, fenders, warps. To fold up bikes, books charts and cutlery crockery, the lot everything

do I buy everything in uk and ship on pallet to marina

do I drive it myself in estate car from to Greece

can I order on Amazon for delivery in Greece

can I order on eBay for delivery in Greece

Be very careful buying goods in the UK and shipping then out to Greece. As we are longer in the EU, means that 25% vat is immediately charged on all imported goods and in some cases a large handling fee may also be charged. This can make the exercise totally uneconomic. Many boat owners are now purchasing goods via European online sites.

Amazon is great for this, but has limitations. Buy what you can from Amazon.gr and have all the benefits of local free delivery. What that doesn't have I'd try and find from other European Amazon markets to avoid tax problems and cheaper delivery.

My choice for Chandlery would be SVB in Germany, who are quite used to delivering throughout Europe, if not the world, but don't forget that local chandlers in Greece can be as good as anywhere and you'll establish a good relationship with them by doing a big order first. (I've seen people checking in Jabsco loos at Heathrow to take out to Preveza where the chandlery there probably sells them for much the same price, although I got on best with the one in Nidri and dealt with him most of all).

Things are improving across the English Channel. I honestly remember caliing into the marine division of a state run and owned store in Yugoslavia. They had two shackles in a display case.

I enjoy walking round chandlers and choosing what I want from their stock. It kind of takes the shine off the pleasure if have to wait for delivery even though it is better to order the item rather than make do buying an unsuitable item.

If you really mean "new" then not a good idea to have it delivered to Greece. Most eastern Med boats are commissioned in Slovenia as trucking down to Greece is difficult and expensive. I had mine delivered to Izola, commissioned there and sailed to Corfu.

If however you are still on buying a non VAT paid ex charter boat then it will almost certainly come fully equipped on the domestic side except for linen - just as if it was still on charter. Equally it will have warps and fenders, all basic safety gear and probably dinghy. You will find out what comes with the boat and what needs replacing, buying, upgrading when you view it. pre Brexit it was best to buy in the UK, but obviously now that is not practical or economical. Greece has a very well established marine industry, and on balance not a lot more expensive than UK. As suggested buying on line for delivery to your marina is worth considering although domestic goods probably better to buy locally.
