Best treatment for external woodwork?

The Woodskin on the " Brightwork "-thats what the Yanks call it-on our Island Packet has done three seasons and still looks more than acceptable.

Will be giving it a light wet and dry and a couple more coats this coming May.

Tried all sorts in the past, Woodskin wins hands down for ease of application and durability with the HUGE advantage of easy touch up of damaged or worn areas.

My two'pennyworth anyway......................

The reason, no, the most probable reason there is such differing views on which finish to use on brightwork is the difference in application thickness.
One mans, no, one persons 'five good coats' can use half or twice the quantity of 'product' than anothers, depending on product, brush, and mainly application style.
Unless a wet film thickness gauge is used on every 'test' then most comparisons are meaningless. Add other factors such as boat location, and not only how the boat is used but how often its is used, then there are so many variables that comparisons are futile!
Oh yes, I nearly forgot how much product you then sand away to get a flat finish, still kidding youself you have applied many coats

Use what you like, and just enjoy the process. If you dont enjoy the process, take up another hobby :-)

Tranoa, is that you, the Tranoa from years ago who departed from the forum?
