best strong glue??

Cascophen and other resourcinol glues require high clamping pressures, close fits and temps during curing above 10°C, so best left to the yards or good warm garages.
I just did a repair to the rubbing strips on an older boat. Cut out the rough bit and PU glued in the replacement. Wood was mahogony and the spare bit came off the rail that was being replaced with Stainless. Weather was a bit cold for époxy and since it was non-structural, PU worked well. i.e. it touched in enough of the joint get a good hold.
If a more critical joint, then époxy and wait for warmer weather.

I've used Gorilla glue for various projects both on the boat and at home and find it's excellent. Check when you buy it that it is the proper stuff and not the gorilla wood glue as the bottles are very similar.

thank you everyone for replies---i have ordered small bottle of gorilla glue £3.99 from aldi-----the crack is very clean and wood has no missing bits----i will clamp up well as recomended----what caused the damage in the first place is ---the capping is 2 inches wide and my outboard clamp is a fraction more than 2 inches ---it is very difficult to lower a 50 kg outboard over the transom accurately/gently----so after glueing i am going to round the corners of the wood off and sheath with some 1.2 mm copper sheet--------------------------------------for information to add to thread---from robbins timber website----they sell balcotan---------cascomite is now called polymite----cascophen is now called extraphen
