Best solid, safe, sea-going boat for the West of Scotland?

Thanks for that. Looks very interesting!
Yes, that looks a very good buy, full of useful extras and that engine cannot be original. Nanni sells the blue paint and it needs some ;) Quite spartan down below but you said you want to get your teeth into something and she looks like she could be made really cosy down below - and she is pretty !
Had a friend who had one and he loved her.

You could consider a Hustler 30, Nicholson 30 or the slightly smaller Trapper 28/500/501. All are tried and tested cruising boats that used to be raced. They will all handle the conditions well as they sit in the water rather than on the water.

Also the Pioneer 9 or an elizabethen. You may even get a Rival within budget.

I always bang the Rival drum when a question such as yours is asked. A number of the smaller ones are listed at the link below: -

There are two 32'LOAs around the price you are looking at. The class is renowned for its safe, strong and fast cruising (the 32 and 34 are fast by the standards of their day). There are quite a few on the west coast and one famous and highly respected surveyor, designer and builder sails one too, based Firth of Clyde. The basic utility of the 32's makes them easy to maintain and the hulls that are around today can be considered to have survived the Osmosis fears due to massive layup.

Food of thought.

Samphire 29 is worth a look, solid heavyish boat, that sails well, quality fit out expensive when new, can now be had for a lot less than your budget.
I do have a vested interest, I am selling mine....

Where's she listed Upcountry? (a very quick websearch didn't bring anything up.)

I have not listed her on any site (yet) my boats usually sell by word of mouth, I lavish too many hours and too much money on them generally, then something else takes my fancy and off we go again.
There's no hope I'm afraid...
