I can get charts and stuff no problem, but there seems to be a lack of sites selling plotting instruments (there seems to be NONE for sale on ebay!?) and those sites that do tend to have a rather expensive and small selection..

Any recommendations? Why is it so expensive for a bit of plastic!? Is it just tooling costs for a low volume product?

It's probably because they are expensive and there are actually not very many of them. !!!

If you are computer literate you could try a laptop, USB GPS and www.oziexplorer.com. It's an excellent program and not expensive.

I have used the system for the last year and have been very impressed with the results. (as an experiment I got to within 6 feet of my mooring from within the cabin with the curtains closed. The person on the helm was most impressed )

Do you mean things like dividers and Portland Plotters. If so, any chandlers will do them, and I guess you pay what you pay, after shopping around.

I've also been wondering the same question.

Just bitten the bullet & ordered from these on Friday (www.chartsales.co.uk) as they were the cheapest I could find (£16.75 + £2.95pp for portland plotter & 7" brass divider set). Not received goods yet though.

Pleased to see that a million & one people haven't replied to tell you that they only cost a fiver from so & so and I've wasted my money....yet!

PS. It was their ebay shop I bought them from - the price is slightly cheaper than their normal online shop??
