Best sailing boots

Were they recent boots?

I bought mine in about June 1997.. They are definitely a quality build, not at all sure about recent Incarnations that are made is some foreign hell- hole sweat shop. Possibly.

( I went to Yorkshire recently to get measured up for some Altberg motorcycle boots as:They are UK made.They are quality boots that will last.They can be repaired. They are also really comfortable and so far as waterproof as wellies. I wonder if we could persuade them to make leather yottie wellies? )

In between I wore a pair of french sailing boots from Le Chameau - bomb proof and with a gaiter, but not breathable.

Breathable or non breathable boots : 2 different kinds of damp. (breathables fall apart and leak, non breathable sweat inside.)

Rigger boots will have steel sole plate (protect against nail penetration) and toe cap so they are good for ensuring MOB sink without trace and motorcyclists loose their toes in a crash.

The rigid sole also means they're very comfortable for standing on a suspended rope for an hour or more at a time, and they are therefore de rigeur aboard square-riggers. However, I think mine would be too clumpy and un-agile for use on a yacht, and probably won't grip all that well either.

The old ones were better built- 17 years from a pair of wellies is pretty good going and they got a lot of use before the heels were shredded which is why they went back for refurb.
I really don't know what I'd replace them with. Then again I might not have to since I've gone all deck saloon and don't spend all day in the wind and rain anymore.
