OK, it wasn't warm and sunny but neither was August. Actually it was prety cold but thankfully only 6 knots so a nice little cuise up the river and back. Went to check that the water quality machinery hadn't been nicked from Thirslet Creek and ran aground /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif rising tide, engine on and a bit of welly. Two nice old gaffers and a fisherman were all that were out.

Worth the effort (and the engine started /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif).

And the prize for the 1st grounding of 2009 goes to Mr MoodySabre! /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

Decided against going down to boat as was so grey and dismal when I looked out the window at 9.30!

Been busy on domestics instead - washing the halyards and just started replacing the fender socks! Plus just watched Dr Who with No4 Son as we missed it on Christmas Day.

I must say that in order to keep the boat fresh and aired over winter I bought an ECS Solar Fan that fits in the normal vent in the forecabin. Excellent.

I'll move it into the heads in the summer /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif

Peter,
Chapter 6 paragraph 3a, subsection 6b line 7 of the onerous rules governing the Jester Challenge, so clearly indicate that the use of fender socks contravenes pretty much every rule governing the very foundation of what is this modern day two fingers in the air at the "establishment". I seriously suggest you re-consider the effectiveness of such devices whilst tethered (mid Atlantic) to a 250,000 tonne container vessel whilst negoatiaiting with said vessel, the further supplies of toilet roll /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif let alone asking said vessel if you just happen to be pointing in the right direction.

Sorry, just couldn't resist /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Should also add that one of the best sails for me of the (last) year was very recent, and was part of the "Christmas Cruise". When Gary and I tied up to the Thames Barges at Maldon, enjoyed a huge meal at the Queens Head then retired to Pipedream to crack open a bottle of Southerm Comfort and reminisce abiout the Jester Trip before drifting downriver the following morning, twas a fine night indeed.

But the socks ARE the reserve toilet roll /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

As member of a highly respected sailing association I do have standards to maintain don't you know. Can't remember which rule but it is something to do with always check socks and ensign match.

Didn't have many 'good sails', the weather was so awful.
One that stuck in my mind was from Vlissingen down to Oostende. Warm sunshine, F3-4, a beat as far as Zeebrugge then just freed off a tad on stbd the rest of the way.
Of course, no wind at all next day when we had to get back to Ramsgate......

O dear O dear my excuse is that the silly old fool has flu.
Me, that is. Back to bed and keep quiet........ /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif

176 litres of diesel stolen. That was my first thought as the fuel guage showed zero when I paid a visit yesterday. Luckily after some investigation a full tank was discovered. Now to find the electrical fault. Phew!

oh no, dont tell me you didnt tie up properly again..... /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

Sounds like you lot down there had the best of the weather, yesterday saw the Wash under a blanket of freezing fog with visibility down to about 100yds. Could just about make out the cardinal beacons flashing at that range. Definately brass monkey weather.

My own private ocean

Good run down to Bradwell on Friday evening; hardly a breath on Saturday, eventually in Pyefleet on my own - but a crackin' beat back to Maldon on Sunday.
Without a doubt, best sail of the year !
And on only two bags of coal too.
Where were you all ?
