Best product to soften Marina fresh water?

Hi,

I just washed the boat down out here in Croatia and the island marina I am staying at has hard water, so what this means is if you have a dusty boat from red rain and wash the boat down and you don't dry it with an Absorber or shammy it looks just as dirty if you let it dry on its own.

Now when I was in a marina just 5 miles away in 2011 the water was so soft that it was the only marina I can recall recently that allowed me to wash the boat down and pretty much let it dry without going crazy using the shammy to avoid those (displeasing to the eye) water marks.

I have seen some of the bigger yachts in various ports use large "Atlas" filter systems (2 stage (2 filters in line)) I have not had experience of them but this is what I would be looking to do. Smaller compact water softening technology I viewed as a waste of time for "boat washing" purposes.

Any thoughts?

This is just a thought. Never tried it but may work. Calgon as used in washing machines.

Calgon converts insoluble salts to soluble ones so would probably still leave a residue on drying.

Do you have a dehumidifier? The water produced by one is excellent for cleaning windows in hard water areas, so would work as a final rinse.

Simple washing soda - virtually the same thing - works too!

If you're 5 miles from the soft water marina and you're in a boat then I'd think the answer obvious unless your boat is broken?

Viakal to remove water spots, may need several passes depending on severity. No harm to paintwork or gel coat, do not allow to dry on the surface.

Try not to wash in the Sun, if you do - dry where you clean.

Decent filter:
An 11ltr vessel filled with extra virgin resin will polish up 300PPM water into 000PPM water (average into pure) for around 5000 to 7500 ltrs. Cost £100 for filled vessel, £25 for recharge.

A wash down with normal water, but the final rinse could be pure. This will allow you to leave the boat at this point without drying (depending on condition) and leave no water marks on the surfaces.
