best polish/cleaner for stainless steel fittings and rails

Not Solvol that's for sure! The guard rails are less that shiny in places and a bit gunked up after numerous cable ties were removed when we took ownership. I remember Solvol being great in the early Eighties when I was polishing motorcycles, it made everything gleem, sadly no more so I'll be watching this thread with interest.

I generally use Autosol, however for those awkward bits where there is a bit of rust staining in corners etc, Spotless Stainless is very good. Just brush it on, leave a few minutes and wash off. All the rust marks disappear.

For stainless steel, especially if it's got some rust, you can buy cheap granulated citric acid from ebay and make up a spray. The acid passivates the stainless steel, removing any rust etc. Much cheaper that proprietary products. Don't spray in your eyes!

any recommendations?
depends what they are like. To get a mirror finish you need a polish (abrasive).

My boat was sat for 2 years when i bought her and the stainless was stained and matt.

This stuff Home was like magic. Paint on and hose off a few hours later. A miracle improvement.

Doesn't take out scratches and make matt stainless shiny, but it cleans it amazingly.

I get rust stains around the base of my stanchions. It seems particularly bad this year. I use Y10 to remove the Staines which it does easily but the stains are back a week or two later. I wonder if there is a polish or similar to prevent this happening.
