Best place to store yacht while selling in The Solent area.

Having a few years ago gone through the boat purchase route, I would much prefer to see a boat ashore. I know what they look like floating; but I do want to see what the bottom is like, rudder mountings, prop shaft wear and so on. They can tell a lot about how the rest of the boat has been treated.

+1

I had a survey done and put right any problems it revealed and it really helped to speed my sale then I polished and antifouled...... they always show better that way.

Nobody likes other peoples dirt! So really clean is vital!

I would echo the ashore route.

If someone is looking for an AWB 35 they will google AWB 35 and go and see them wherever. You will miss those googling Nearly AWB 34 or 36. Put her ashore in brokerage where someone can see her and you gain extra potentials as the Nearly AWB 34 viewers come down to see the boat next door. If they are on the Nearly AWB 34 next door and see yours looking very nice there is no disincentive to them to have a quick look at yours as well. A decent broker should highlight yours as well - " as you're down here - would like to see something similar but also suitable as a comparison" - lets be honest - who amongst us doesn't like looking at boats.

The only time I would say stay afloat would be if you had already paid for your berth and the brokers were in the same marina as the boat.

There are two 15m marina berths for rent privately in Gosport.
They would be available on a rolling monthly contract
Please send a PM if interested

Thanks guys.
Fantastic advice from all off you.
I shall leave her where she is, in Chichester.
Selling will probably take time and in Chi it will be easy for me to keep her in tip top condition. I will also be able to sail her if she is in the water.

Thanks again for the advice.

You might be able to make it work, but this is a notorious warning sign. Boats that are still being used by the owner do not sell as well as boats that are seriously for sale, and prepared and displayed accordingly.

Another option could be a month by month river temporary mooring on the Hamble, if they have any available. IIRC the cost would be about £400/m. Aside from the cost saving, the boat is then in a good place for selling and some of the brokers serving the Hamble have a RIB there for taking prospective purchasers out to the boat.

jryachts.com - Jonic on this forum - sold my last boat whilst it was on a Hamble river mooring and he has a RIB on the river.

Considering the number of boats available for sale I do not think that i would be attracted by the hassle of going out to a river mooring to view a yacht. My first impression may be that it had been "dumped" as owner did not care about it. Once a bit of weed got on the hull it would look dreadful
