When we bought our Nordhavn 43 last year it came with a 4 stroke Williams 285 Jet Tender. This had always been covered on the top deck & had only 4 hours on the engine. After trying it a few times we have decided it's not for us. Question is - what's the best way to sell or part exchange it. I've thought about a classified ad on eBay. Don't really want to get a broker involved.

Are you the optician who was on Dan Bran at Lymington?

I would recommend you speak to Richard Williamson @ boats.co.uk - they know how to sell!

The Williams is by no means new 2008 I think despite the very low hours and very nice condition. We'd prefer a conventional tender that can be beached and relaunched if the tide goes down. The Williams is too heavy.

To answer the OP's original question, would an ad on Boats and Outboards work?

Indidentally can a private seller get an ad on YachtSales or TheYachtMarket?

NOt sure about yachtsales, but private individuals can sell on Yachtmarket, my previous boat sale came from there.

Following further advice, I decided to list it on Ebay as a classified ad. The advantage of this is that you pay a fixed fee upfront ( in this case £15) - and then no commission. After just a few days it's been quite promising with a few serious enquiries.

I sold my 2009 285 Jet (non turbo) last year to a man in Holland @ £10,500 I just used boatshop24.com and it took a couple of weeks. BTW I changed it for the same reasons also my kids don't join us much these days so I don't need the performance for water sports. They go like the clappers and do a good job but, as practical tender there are much better options out there IMO. I now have a Brig Falcon 330HT with a Suzuki DF20 20hp, they still wakeboard behind it, just, it's a proper 4 seater with even more space, easy to maintain and 140kg dry. Mind you I do sometimes miss the Williams it's the second one I've had and my son says he will never forgive me! Good Luck

Thanks for your very useful info. So my 2007 Turbojet 285 is listed at £8.5k - do you think I ought to try & get close to this??

I would have thought more judging by your description it sounds much better than mine, which had been quite well used, and I was advertising in December you should be able to take advantage of the usual pre-season 'spring' in prices, why not try £9.5k if anyone is seriously looking they wont be put off. Dependant upon what tender you buy there should be some cash left over! Good luck.

Hi Trialframe

The advert on ebay is good and the Tender looks in fantastic condition so dont think you will any trouble selling it at this time of the year, just a case of waiting for the right buyer specifically wanting a Williams.
We considered one to go in the back of our Targa 47 last year but didnt need the performance so went for aluminium AB rib with Yammie 9.9 on the back which we are really pleased with.
I too am berthed in Weymouth and admire your fine ship whilst waiting for the bridge. I will give you a toot when next passing if i see you onboard, we are the beige coloured Targa 47 called Twister

Cheers
