I may be going into Addenbrookes for major surgery soon, after which they may want to keep me local for a while. Thought it might be nice to spend some time on board in preference to hospital provided accommodation or a hotel.
Should be 50ft, or 47 to be precise.

You could have a problem. There are marinas, but none near Cambridge. For a boat that size, Cambridge (Jesus Lock) will mark the upper limit of navigation. There are moorings along the river, but they are well and truly oversubscribed, with an ongoing "situation" between the boaters, the Conservators of the River Cam and the local authority. Basically a residential mooring isn't likely to be available. I think the next place downstream is the Fish and Duck marina near Stretham - there certainly isn't anywhere between Cambridge and Bottisham Lock at Waterbeach; I used to row along that section of the river and lived in Waterbeach for many years!. There are marinas on the Great Ouse at Chittering, Ely and Littleport and upstream at Earith and St Ives. There are bankside berths in a places, but most are non-residential.

Your length shouldn't be a problem, as plenty of narrow boats navigate up to Cambridge. Your air-draft could be, though.

It all depends on how near Cambridge you will regard as near enough! I live at Littleport and Addenbrookes is the local hospital. I allow an hour to get to Addenbrookes, but that's to allow for getting stuck behind a tractor on the A10.
