best place to board a boat from tender?

It surely all depends on the location/weather/sea state, as I think I wrote many posts ago. Commencing our cruising life with an exposed mooring on the Menai Strait, even though we had a first boat with which it was possible to board at the transom, we frequently found this to be impossible. It was quite common for the stern to be pitching a couple of feet, making it difficult and dangerous to board there. Hence we developed the skills to board close to midships, which we still use when necessary today, although the transom ladder is considerably more convenient.

At least my little boat does not have guard rails.
Good. I've found guardrails to be more dangerous on a small boat than not having them. They are at back-of-knee height. They are a stumbling hazard and with very narrow side-decks they are a twisted-knee hazard. (don't ask me to explain, take my word for it.)
