previous posts on this convince me that i need a 'proper' compressor chest fridge for my (camper and the boat).
A couple of months ago there was a post on best deals but I cant recover it.
can anyone point me to the best place to buy please??
Emergency quick cool beer half a bucket of water with 6 beers in, small camping stove cylinder, pierce cylinder while holding under water....presto very cold water and pretty soon cold beer. I guess that this should not be done indoors or near a flame?? Rather expensive also!!

Regards

Compass Watersports prices usually keen, especially if they are doing an offer. I've found that even if an offer has expired, they can usually be persuaded to extend it after the closing date. And they can be persuaded to throw in a related item for free as well sometimes.

Compass

Do a brand name search on Waeco.

I feel obliged to tell you off for even contemplating the gas cannister trick, deliberately releasing methane or similar is very naughty, as it is an even more potent greenhouse gas than carbon dioxide!

You forgot to tell pcatterel that sometimes spontaneous ignition can take place when air and inflammable gases are mixed together in a critical proportion (the stoichiometric ratio).

Nevertheless, it's a useful trick if one ever needed chilled water for a first aid application. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

I saw a "Mythbusters" program on this a while ago - quickest way to cool down beer:

Quickest - CO2 fire extinguisher
next - beer in bucket of ice, then add water
next - beer in bucket of ice without water

Myth - bury beer in sand. pour some petrol on top. light it. (it actually warms up the beer - what a surprise.)

Sorry, can't help with your actual question.

Thanks guys, usefull info especially the 'target' price.
I'd better get one quick so as to 'spare the planet' and avoid the risk of blowing myself off it !!

Question... as the gas is disipated it must at sometime reach the critical mix refered to so why is there not always an explosion??
