Best Material for Mooring lines?

Nylon. They have greater elasticity over polyester/poly prop and will take the shock waves of snatching, which is why it's best used for anchor warp. It does go stiff after a while but I take my lines off every winter and give them a hot soapy wash. It seems to work

In the CM locker sale, we have 60 m of nylon plait, thick enough for a 40 foot yacht. It is about 16mm. I will add it to my list

Corlene (light green with a white fleck), a mix of poly prop and nylon, was great on my 44ft 20ton boat for 6yrs, bought at a commercial fishing chandlers, very good value. Bill.

Cheap as chips. I bought some last year for a mooring bridle - 20mm for under £1 a metre. It is a bit stiff but I managed to splice it without too much trouble.

I generally use ordinary polypropylene. It looks cheap but does the job and above all it floats so almost impossible to snag the props.

Personally I have tended to use 3 strand non prestretch polyester, good stretch though perhaps not as good as nylon, but hardy and splices easily so I can make up custom lines for my berth. Affordable if bought at boat jumblesin reasonably sized bits.

I don't have access to climbing rope though I have met plenty of people who swear by it as it is cheap and durable.
