We are not full time live-aboards but have a 36ft Jeanneau currently in Alicante that we visit 5 - 6 times a year for holidays. Thinking of moving on to Majorca - can anyone suggest a good marina as a base that is not too loud and is reasonably secure? We have read the pilot books but personal experience from someone already there would be useful. Thanks /forums/images/graemlins/smirk.gif

Tricky one. Most are pretty full but we had no problem getting in because we flew over in advance and spoke to people face to face.

Most covenient for airport is bay of Palma. There are around 7 or 8 marinas here along the Paseo maritimo although some are very small. Security is pretty good everywhere due to whole area being well lit and in public view. Can reccomend marina Port de Mallorca, Club de Mar and Real Club Nautico.

Your are in for a bit of a shock pricewise though compared to Alicante.

What about moving slightly north to Denia. Very well (too well sometimes!) run marina and only 60 miles from Formentera which is a lot nicer than Majorca.

know Santa Ponsa well. very quiet no social life but secure
Andratx (Club Vela) similar and closer to shops There are several others along coast to Palma but some more expensive than others I'm not a expert on Mallorca but happy to help where poss.

We are in Marina Alboran - one of the smaller marinas along the Paseo Maritimo - but I can confirm overall the prices in Palma are higher than just about anywhere else within a 100 mile radius.
They all calculate price by the quare metre (length x max width) and in our marina we pay at a rate of .60 euro cents.

That was a super rate in August for us (where others go up to well over 1 euro) - but its certainly not the cheapest for the winter months.

I know our winter rate is similar to Real Club (but they have better facilities but are full anyway) and more sheltered than Port de Mallorca, and believe only Pier 46 is lower still.

Pier 46 are currently running a winter 05/06 waiting list but if your need is for winter 06/07 you could possibly book there now - suggest you book and pay early as they fill fast.

If you are looking for next summer you could try ours - Marina Alboran. It is a charter marina so tend to not advertise full time berths as they are pretty busy Fridays / Saturdays - and usually empty midweek. We got in in August full time at that .60 cents with no worries - but that may have been an exception.

FYI we have pals in San Antonio on Ibiza paying perhap 50% of our winter rate - but on our visits we've found it not too secure.

I also understand similar lower prices are also available on the mainland Denia which has superb facilities - Steve Clayton is a forum regular and keeps his boat there so he should be able to advise on current pricing. If he's not awake and reading this - PM him.
Hope this helps.

Just been down this weekend and confirm Club de Mallorca, Real Club and Pier 46 are all full right now - but space will be available at Port de Mallorca from mid December.

Re-reading your orginal question (sorry not to have picked that up your 'which is best') - the Real Club Nautico has best all round facilities (close to yard - all trades close - small shop and bar on jetty - own fuel jetty - launderette - well secured)and also close to Palma town centre.

Cheers
JOHN
