Best looking GRP boats ever

Ah well I'm glad somebody likes them. Each to their own.

Actually the smaller ones in the range do look quite good, to me, in a chunky sort of way.

I have to admit I like the more dramatic modern takes on what is, if we're honest, a massively old-fashioned sport.

And how can this not be pretty?

My initial though was this beauty, although I think it might be composite rather than GRP.

There's a big difference between 'impressive' and 'good looking'; for the latter, give me a Contessa 32 any day.

But by the time you get to the sizes to be "impressive", you have much more options in how you achieve "good looking"

Though the Contessa is a very classicly pretty boat.

Eastbrae - Stardust is for sale (and has been for at least 2 years). She's in the Netherlands. She has, I believe, a saildrive fitted to replace the forward gearbox and hydraulic drive.

be fair TK, that wouldn't even get an honorable mention in the "ugliest boat" awards. To be in with a chance there, you have to have some doubt as to if what you're looking at is in fact a boat...

Just shows how two different people can have wildly differing tastes....

As for my "too ugly to be allowed to breed and still in production", there's just no excuse for most modern cruising cats in the aesthetics department.......

With the greatest possible respect to cat owners, that just looks like a minibus on floats! Now I'm sure the interior is lovely and it sails really nicely and all that, but really, surely there is a better look than the squared off front?

Nic 43 is lovely looking yacht - once sold one (ex-broker) from Gosport called Magdelene

Yep, it's a later development of the 38 with a different stern which allows a huge aft locker and aft cabin. Mine sails like a dream ,, maybe the old C38's are a little tired or maybe the crews are

I think the Mk 2 Corribee is gorgeous, and I also like the Arden 4.

However, as it's obviously not on to nominate ones own boat I would say that the Contessa 26 is a design that looks just right.
If I had to nominate a modern boat then the choice is much more limited, maybe just the RM boats (I know they are ply but there is so much epoxy involved that they're not wooden in the traditional sense).

By the way, now the classic section has gone, why can't we ask for another forum called 'Wooden Boats' to be set up?

Glad somebody mentioned RMs.....modesty precludes etc etc (but the earlier ones were somewhat 'agricultural!). The new 1060 looks the bees knees.
But my nomination is the range of daysailors produced by Saffier yachts of Holland. if and when i downsize i might find myself looking at these...

I think it's a shame that Classic Boat (no longer of this parish) rarely features GRP boats, as this thread shows that there are some beauties. Yes, most people buy it (me included) for the amazing shots of mind-bogglingly expensive wooden beauties, but the 'classic' GRP market isn't really catered for. I realise perfectly well that the market is almost nil - Stardust of Ashton, the Nic 43 discussed above, has been on the market for well over two years.

So this is a nice bit of indulgence which won't be coming to a magazine near you soon!
