Tomorrow we'll make our annual pilgrimage to Southampton.
As usual I'll be making efforts to empty my wallet into some salesman's sweaty palm.
I'm looking for recommendations.

Are there any amazing spectacles or bargains that are not to me missed?
Or, any 'Oh-My-Gaud who'd buy that', gadget (or boats) you spotted that will brighten my day?

Also, SWMBO usually navigates us via the Park & Ride but I was thinking of using a car park near the show for a change.
Where do you park?

There are two carparks very near by. A multi storey and a pay and display. we parked in the multi all day on saturday for 4.50. Just up from the red funnel terminal towards town.

Other CP are the main shopping centre at west quay, and there is some all day parking down towards Ocean Village.

We parked in the West Quay (I think) Multi storey - We took the route in on the M27 and M271 which takes you past the park and ride and then follow the signs to the show and its right next door to the show - costs max 7 quid all day (or thereabouts I think) but is a normal multi storey pay by the hour type of deal. We arrived about 10:30 on last saturday and there were plenty of spaces - there are also electronic signs everywhere showng the no of car parking spaces available. There is a sign on the car park which seems to infer that it is for show pass holders only but it actually means that pass holders should park on the upper floors.

Most "Pimped Up" Boat award must go to the Oyster 82 with the purple / green metallic flip painted mast and boom - nice (NOT!) /forums/images/icons/shocked.gif
Best boat obviously goes to the one I have bought (Hanse 371) /forums/images/icons/smile.gif
The Hanse 461 interior is worth a look to see how it is possible to do things differently and not stick to the standard Euroboat formula
I thought the Southerly 35RS was interesting -if a bit expensive.

Thanks Alex, we'll take a look at the Hanse. A friend of ours is drawling after one of these. In the past I've been put off by their very shiny interior.

Yes, West Quay car parks are the closest - Podium slightly closer than Multi-storey, but both within 5 minutes' walk of the entrance. Lots of other car parks nearby and well signed, because the SBS site is close to what is now the main shopping area in Town. Park and Ride is cheaper, for reasons that become all too obvious when you use it!

Best boat? Easy, the Spirit 70. Absolutely gorgeous. And none of this "Viewing by appointment" rubbish. A quick "Could I come and have a look?" and I'm crawling all over her. Sexiest boat there by a considerable margin.

There was an article about them in Classic Boat a while ago. Apparently it's POA (if you have to ask etc) but with all the options "approaching a couple of million".

We also liked the Hanse except for the 'Orangy varnished interior' - apparently it's a very hi-tech finish which is baked on. Pity they don't do an alternative finish - good value though.

Go and see the nice man from Berthons who seriously (seemingly - perhaps he was practicing) expected me to up-grade from my Hustler 30, value less than £20k, to one of his "Dutch Sturdy" armoured mobo barges, price from £540k !
Still, it was a good place to shelter from the rain soaked pontoon and I got a couple of glasses of wine and about £30s worth of hard-backed brochures, which'll look good on the table when SWMBO's ex comes round . . .

At the last Paris Boat Show I went on board a 57 footer out of idle curiosity but had to leave name and tel N°. I was later contacted and the conversation got round to what I was currently sailing. Feeling 9m20. The salesman hung up without a further word....

Has anyone ever sailed one or know of any tests etc? I do like the look (and price :) of them, but I fear if they've come from the Oceanis school of thought rather than the First School of thought then they will sail like an overloaded 25 foot pig.
