Some boats can take a long time to sell so it could be a long time without being able to use her?

Some brokers may offer free storage whilst being sold by them, saving marina bills.

It would need to be re launched for sea trials etc.

Could be a benifit of having a boat for sale sat right outside the sales office of the main dealer otherwise I would think teh benifits of being still in the water out weigh other ashore solutions.

I would be far happy viewing a prospective purchase in the water, afloat. After all, thats where it belongs and makes a trip out far easier.

It won't sell in today's economic climate:(
So you may as well keep it in the water and use it:)

I am not sure why people say things like that. On what grounds can you say it "won't sell"? How do you know, or is it tongue in cheek? If so - sorry missed it! Boats are selling up here in bonny Scotland. All types yacht/mobo/big/small/cheap/expensive. I am not saying that there are a queues of people buying every boat, but there seems that there is a a decent amount of anecdotal evidence to say that there are people buying boats.

FWIW I think having the boat in the water for selling is best. It will come out anyway for a survey.

Thats good to hear. We hope to sell ours next year but I will certainly keep it in the water and use it whilst we wait

Its one of those problems he had to deal with, which was the OP question. If its in the water buyers can view and have a quick trip out, then they have to pay for it to come out for inspection, if they like it and its going by road then its out ready. If you take it out and its viewed they have to pay for it to go in the water for a sea trial, then if they are taking it by road it comes out again.

The way I looked at it was cost, most marinas will do a deal and let you store on hard standing cheaper than moorings, if you need to sell to buy then it makes no difference. If you can afford to buy your other boat then the one for sale can go on hard standing which would be the cheaper option.
