The mast on my grand-daughters Mirror dinghy has separated along its length. What's the best glue for sticking it back together again? Any waterproof wood glue like Titebond type III?

I think she'd rather have a Laser!

I have not used it but looking at the website I would say it would be fine. Even Titebond II but maybe not if it is left out in all weathers. An epoxy is another alternative but that will be 2 parts of course. A polyurethane glue may be another possibility.

The real secret will be clamping it together adequately and leaving it clamped for long enough .... several days I would suggest.

Better still stick your hand a bit deeper into your pocket and buy her a nice new aluminium mast!

Fortunately she doesn't read forums like this or trouble would ensue! /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif

Simple and reliable fix:
Ensure timber is dry.
Mix epoxy resin and hardener.
Add some Micro Fibres (or fine cut CSM) to a toothpaste thickness.
Apply to mast and remove any excess because it's a bugger to sand off later.
Do not apply clamps too tight, leave at least a mm or more, or it will break again.

Avagoodweekend......

Surely any waterproof wood glue, properly cramped, would be fine.
