Best Destination down the Wallet?

I'm bringing my wee Europa down to SYH on the Orwell next week. If all goes well I might be tempted to sail down the Wallet. I'd be looking to head back the next day or so but I have the otion of bus-ing it back up for the trailer if weatherbound.

What would be the best destination do you reckon? I'm looking for a secure anchorage but with a marina option too... I can't take the ground (fin keeler) but only draw a metre.

Any reccomendations? I was looking at Brightlingsea but thought I'd ask and see if there are better options...

Pyfleet for anchorage - can troll across into Brightlingsea for supplies - bus - whatever. Plenty of anchoring options in the Blackwater depending on weather and what you want. Marinas at Bradwell and Tollesbury - Bradwell would be a real pain to bus back (did it once to Maldon and that was enough). Moorings at West Mersea.

Weather forecast looks good but if they lie & the Wallet becomes a no-go area don't forget the Walton Backwaters.

Good sailing & perfect shelter, additionally, should you need it, you could launch or recover at the Walton & Frinton Yacht Club (free & near the town centre) or Titchmarsh Marina.

Should you need it there is a 20 minute bus service to Clacton.

Where ever you go I am sure you will have a warm welcome & a great time.

Thanks Nortada! The Backwaters will be our first night hopefully, we'll probably head up towards Bridget Island for the night... Looking forward to it :)

I'd like to visit WFYC, reckon we'd manage a shower and some milk on one tide?

Yes.

You will get 2 hours around the top of the tide on the W&FYC quay.

So shower, milk, tour of Walton & a beer in the bar before you depart.
 
We always enjoy Brightlingsea. The harbour master is very helpful and wherever possible, visiting boats are met on the water as they enter the harbour and are shown to a berth by members of the Harbour Staff. Berths are on all tide access pontoons. There's no land access, so you need your own dinghy, or use the water taxi.

The fish and chips and The Indian Restaurant are very good at Brightlingsea and we also go to the coffee shop near the harbour master's office. :)
 
Just wondering... Can Brightlingsea be considered an 'all-tide, all weather' port, or are there any conditions when I might want to avoid it?

EDIT: Scrub that, just realised I'd misread something...

On Thursday night anticipate I will be on a buoy at the bottom of Foundry Reach (just after the Spit NCM).

Then into the Pond on the Friday morning tide between 1130 & 1230 in time for the Pier Race on Saturday & The W&FYC Open Day on the Sunday.

You should be able to flag the W&FYC quay on Thursday between 0900 & 1400 or on Friday 0930 & 1400.

You can identify our boat as we fly the Portuguese Flag from our port spreader.
