Best Colregs book?

Can anyone recommend a simple-ish Colregs book? There seem to be a lot about.
Something practical for a small yacht, for reading ashore and reference aboard?

Its all in Reeds Nautical Almanac if you get that every year.

Also Reeds Super Yacht Manual is handy, it also has colregs

Cockroft and Lameir (spelling?) has discussion and examples, better written than the wishy-washy paperbacks you find in chandlers. Probly find used on Amazon.

If the OP is after something simple, might cockcroft and Lameijer be a little advanced (and expensive)?

"A seaman's guide to the rules of the road" seems to be the one which everyone gets and many people like although TBH I really didn't find the self-study guide helpful: Maybe this is the way Jack Tar learns but not the way my head seems to work. I own this book but actually really only use it for the actual rules which are reproduced at the end.

The same publisher do a much cheaper book which is just the rules: "Pocket Book of the International Regulations for Preventing Collisions at Sea: A Seaman's Guide" which I'd get if I ever lost the other book, but obviously it's just the rules with no clarifications.

Supplementary questions like "so what does 'Impede' mean, exactly?" can always be posted here

They are not difficult to understand. they are simply worded and mean what they say

The RYA publish them in an 80 paperback book with explanatory notes by our old friend ( and foe!) Tim Bartlett. Without checking on the other suggestions id think this is likely to be the best value.
