Best choc block to reconnect cut radar wire?

Hi team :)

A big thank you for all your replies so far. The boat is over a 100 miles from me so I can't go and check..... The radar is (probably) Furuno 1621 having just looked at a few photos on the 'net. I have found these ........

Furuno 1621is not that old - so not just a simple coax cable.

This is what the end of the cable looks like:-

You might want to look up ribbon cable connectors.

Otherwise lots of nice connectors here:-

OK....I'm drowning a little here..... just want a simple connection for a simple (me) person o_O
This is my internal connections for mast cables using Wagos on a board. A blob of instant epoxy on the back of the Wago then straight onto the board. Only lights, but principle is the same for any wire connections (not Co Ax). Cheap as chips and very simple (has to be for me).

It's not difficult. Chocolate box connector if that's what you are used to and understand, but to improve the connection terminate each wire before inserting it. Either a ferule crimped on the end as described above, or an alternative is a crimped on blade connector like this...

Blade connector

Either type needs a crimping tool, but they are not expensive and you will have it within a day or two from ebay.

I have a 1623 radar and the cable looks alot like the one in the OPs message. The plug on the end is quite a small diameter and when I installed it I fed it through the deck and managed to source a suitable watertight deck connector. I routed the cable in the cabin so that it can be easily removed and when I take my mast down I pull the cable out onto the deck so I do not have and connections in the line. That is on a Vancouver 27.

Haha, I never could make a decision! so then, I'll prob go with the Keehom ones from Amazon as I can also use them to replace the old connectors for the cabin and nav lights too. Regarding the Co Ax shield I recall reading somewhere just straighten it out and solder back together at the join?

This is what i used for reconnecting my mast back up. Some of the wires were so thin I couldn't get a chock block or wago to grip. I will have to cut them out if i need to remove the mast but have plenty of cable in the ceiling void. Most likely the mast equipment will need replacing next time it comes down anyway.

FYI wire nuts are expressly forbidden in UK/Europe standards.
But still used extensively in Portugal for single core joints. Freely available from DIY stores. I wish they would ban them from all use. I've had several bad connection failures in my 10 yr old house from these.

Index Marine do chocolate block type connectors with inbuilt plates and the ones I’ve used don’t go rusty . (I also used one yesterday..!)

Our radar cable is joined behind the headlining at the foot of the mast with one like these. It’s been like it for over 18 years with mast removed several times etc and all still works well.

I have a 1621 and cut the data cable when taking off the mast. I tried choc strip connectors when reinstalling but kept losing connection of the imbedded fine coax line. I have subsequently used Wago connectors without any problems for several years now.

Thanks again for all help offered. I was just scanning some older similar questions and looks like I'm probably overthinking this. For the braid join sounds stripping back a couple of inches then joining to two halves together will do the trick (y)
