I realise that there has been a number of discussions regarding this in the past, but I guess things change so...

What would you recommend by way of charts for a Garmin 128 fixed GPS and a Garmin eTrex Legend handheld? All I need is the Solent and surrounding area, south coast basically. Am I right in saying that Bluechart allows both devices to be used with one unlock code? I also want/need OS style maps for the south of England (Landranger style) to use on the eTrex on my mountain bike, again, any recommendations? Oh, did I say I was trying to do this 'on the cheap'!!

Finally, if anyone has any of the above for sale I would like to hear from you. Age of charts not too important at the moment as they are primarily for familiarisation with GPS and won't be used as a primary means to navigation as yet.

Thanks guys (and gals!), as always your expertise is appreciated!!

Steve

Apologies!! Got carried away, more coffee needed. The 128 doesn't use charts as you say. However, the question still applies to the eTrex!!

Thanks for the correction!!

Hi,

I think the only charts that can be used on Garmin GPS's are their own.

I am planning to buy Garmin Bluechart V8.5 from a US seller on Ebay. With the dollar/pound exchange rate it comes in just under £100 inc. postage which is cheaper than anywhere I have found in the UK.

Hope that helps,
Chris

We bought large unlock codes from Marine Superstore recently for just over £100 each. You may well find that your purchase will be subject to VAT, which will be taken by the importer on your behalf, without the option not to pay. Your bargain may not be as good as it appears.
