Best chandlery around the Solent?

I need to pick up some bit 'n' pieces for the boat like countersunk stainless nuts & bolts and fender cages but I've never seen these sorts of things in the chandlers at the marinas I've visited.

Which do you reckon is the biggest and best chandlery around the Solent if I want browse as much as possible in the flesh, it's always more fun than flicking through a catalogue!
 
Convenient for me and for fastenings sold singly, not in packets, I usually go to Seateach in Emsworth. The staff always very helpful too... bar one GOG, believed to be the boss!

Many in the area like the Chandlery in Emsworth marina. I believe it is much enlarged now but have not been there recently. Also good, I think, for fastenings

Most recent purchase was from Force4 ( on the way towards Chichester marina)

I think there is probably a difference between chandlers where you go to browse and while away a wet, windy morning and those who actually stock what you want to buy.

Fender cages though ??? Mine have never escaped from the cockpit locker!
 
Biggest is probably the Marine Superstore at Port Solent, though I'm not sure this translates into widest range.

Another alternative is to go to Aladdin's Cave at Swanwick Bridge (now taken over by someone else but I can't remember who). They have two stores - one at Deacon's Boatyard and one at Moody's Marina across the bridge. If you have no joy there, you can cross the road at Deacon's, go down the lane opposite and try your luck at Foulkes' Barge, which is a treasure trove of new and previously enjoyed boaty stuff.

Arthur's Chandlery, Mumby Road, Gosport, has a huge stock of s/s fastenings and sells them individually, so you don't need to buy pre-packs containing more than you need.

I don't know if he stocks fender cages but I'm sure he can get them.

Think Force 4 now have Aladins Cave... I have used them - always very helpful. Also use Marine Superstore at P Solent - large stocks and range - but staff (i have found) whilst wanting to help lack any knowledge!! Fine though if you know what you want. I buy most of my stainless fixings-nuts/bolts etc from www.stagonset.co.uk

I second Arthur's. I use them all the time - very helpful and knowledgable staff.

for nuts n bolts i agree about aurturs in gossie....

for big stuff ask luke at percy see in fareham, he's cheaper than most places and offers discount :p

clothing has got to be marinesuperstore at port solent.
 
Another vote for Marine Superstore in Port Solent - they are huge and have good prices. I still prefer to go there for my big shopping even though the boat is on the Hamble now!

Interesting comment about Seateach. A few Saturdays back we spent an entire day shopping for clothing and various bits of hardware. We visited Force 4 at Bursledon (previously Aladdin's) and at Swanwick, Andark at Swanwick, Marine Superstore, and Seateach at Emsworth.

Staff in all shops were helpful (F4 Swanwick exceptionally so) EXCEPT for Seateach. Having heard good things about Seateach I was really disappointed. We had driven the extra miles to Emsworth specifically to visit Seateach. Having been in the shop for 10 or 15 minutes, and having picked up several items to buy, the staff ignored us and continued chatting amongst themselves.

Not being pushy people we felt alienated. So we put the items back and left. Strangers seem to be unwelcome at Seateach, at least on the day we were there.
