Best canvass waterproofer

Silicone waterseal from Wickes, the solvent based one, is very effective and the cheapest by far £s for quantity. They used to recommend it for tent proofing, lately they sell the same product but that little gem is missing from the tin these days. It's sold for spraying onto external walls and still works well on canvas.

I've used brush on Fabsil from your local camping shop. I have heard from this forum that it's not good to get it on your screens hence "brush on". I don't know if this also applies to the Wickes product mentioned above.....be useful to know?
I believe Starbright also do a product which may be more available in Spain.

Don't think Fabsil is now available. I have used in the past with good results, tried to purchase more and was told the company has been taken over. The 'new' product is clear although the slight 'yellow' colour of Fabsil did not show on my blue covers. Should anyone want to know the name and manufacturer of the replacement product, let me know. It's too cold to go out into the garage to look at the label without some encouragement!

There seems to be a lot of Fabsil available on the web, including ebay. I have used it on hoods and covers, it works well but I would think the Wickes version is cheaper.

Re. my note above, the product / manufacturer that I was told had replaced Fabsil is Storm Super Water-Proofer, by Storm Waterproofing Ltd., DE55 7FQ, +44 (0)1773 521309, www.stormwaterproofing.com. Maybe the person who told me that this had replaced Fabsil has a vested interest?

Got some from Halfords.

A while back though!

Plus the local caravan chandlerey

Plus seen the stuff in Camping chandlereys.

Some seen in boating 'Swindlereys' too.

Suprise suprise

Dearer in the latter!

For the small extra premium it is worthwhile going for Fabsil Gold, I've just bought a
brush on can of it off of eBay for a tenner.

Fabsil, get the paint on not the aerosol unless you want to use zillions of cans!

I agree - use the liquid and brush on. I started with a large aerosol thinking it would do the sprayhood but it barely did half. Bought a 1 litre tin and it did the whole sprayhood with a bit left over.

Whatever you go for, and I recommend the Wickes one as cheaper but just as effective, it is important to use the solvent-based variety. (Don't worry about global warming, we need some!)

You can spray apply with a garden sprayer, the pump up type pressure cylinder with the wand.
