Best broker to sell my CW28?

Thinking of putting Rhoda Rose up for sale. Need to get another gaffer, headroom isn't everything after all:-)

MJ Lewis is the nearest to my berth but they say they specialise in classic boats. Any recommendations for active, honest and reliable brokers within striking distance of Maldon?

Caer Urfa of this forum is the CW archivist and keeps his ears open for people who want these wonderful boats. Well worth a PM.

Would not recommend them. I tried to deal with them when i was looking for a boat last year, worse than hard work. Made offers on boats and they never bothered to get back to me.
 
Steve, getting another Crabber? BTW, the old gaffers are meeting in Ipswich this weekend, and then going to the Blackwater for a week, you may find some inspiration if you catch them at the various stop-off points.

Yes Ian, I will be looking for a nice mk1, there are a few about at the moment but I must sell Rhoda Rose first. Should never have sold my last one, never stopped missing it :-). Will you be 'gaffe ring' next week?

Hopefully have enough cash left for a really good cockpit cover and a good heater, to at least soften the blow for the missus.

Howard Ford in Woodbridge is excellent. All the dealings I've had with Boatshed have been positive.
 
I purchased my current boat through Foxs, they couldn't have been more helpful.

Clarke and Carter at SYH couldn't have been less interested if they'd have tried.
 
I've always found Clarke & Carter very helpful. I've bought two boats through them and sold one.

If you are looking to sell, it's worth considering one of the second hand boat shows. I took mine to Levington and it was gone within four days.
 
Steve, we're (& Tarquin in Jayne Louise) only at the Ipswich part of the gaffers week. Going Friday coming back to Titchmarsh Monday (in Storm, a bawley yacht). If thinking of a Crabber Mk1, I'd try to find a Mk2, same boat but with GRP instead of ply decks, slightly higher aspect rig & slightly heavier. Also some came with 2YM20 engines instead of the YSB8's or 1GM's. Having said that, there's far more Mk1's around than Mk2's. I couldn't find a Mk2 to buy in 2012.

Thank you, I bought my Crabber from the Burnham branch and found them very helpful. Will drop them a line I thunk.
 
Ian, I agree there is a lot to be said for a Mk2, there may be one for sale in Woodbridge, not sure, the advertisement is ambiguous. To be honest, I rather like the ply decks on the Mk1, a bit more traditional, rotten wood and leaks etc :-) I have emailed the broker. but I need to sell poor old Rhoda Rose before getting too excited :-). Have fun over the weekend.
 
Clarke & Carter (Burnham branch) dealt with the sale of Erbas very much to my satisfaction
Woodrolfe at Tollesbury were also very satisfactory to deal with as a buyer
 
Clarke and Carter were politely persistent when we were thinking of buying a boat through them, they did a good job for their client.
 
It was the SYH branch of Clarke and Carter i visited. Asked for a list of what they had for sale, they didn't have one, said it was all on the internet. Erm, i'm not on the internet, i'm here, what have you got for sale ? Bloke was totally uninterested when i told him my budget. He did show me one pile of crap in the yard that was nothing like anything i'd said i might be interested in. Then he told me to have a walk around and see if i could find anything i liked the look of.

When i looked on the internet i found several boats that were worth a look, at various branches of Clarke and Carter. Called about a Discus at Shotley and was told to get the keys from the lock tower. Never told me anything about the boat and didn't take any details or follow up my viewing in any way.

No axes to grind and no connection with any local brokers. Just didn't feel i got any sort of decent service from them. The guys at Foxs were very helpful, submitted all offers and handled everything well and even had a list of boats for sale.
 
When I called into C&C at Levington in June the guy couldn't have been more helpful. Had a long chat about Wild Otter and a few other boats although at the time (and I told him) the boat fund hadn't been received from the pension company. Will be going back to see him over the August Bank Holiday when am sailing in the area.
 
Foxs Yacht Sales have had a very good year of selling boats. So much so that they are currently advertising for vessels to sell. They must be doing something right.
