I'm looking at a complete rewiring job. What's the best, most comprehensive book available on boat electrics? And can anyone name a good supplier for cable, terminals, all that sort of stuff?

Start with : -

Electrics Afloat by Alastair Garrod - pub: Adlard Coles ( +PBO ) £19.99

then move on to Nigel Calders book and most of it will make sense.

Unfortunately all the "in-depth" books on this subject are USA published, including N Calders, and have the usual poor photo printing / editing and layout associated with this + the ft / inches and other dated 20th C approaches.

Alastair Garrods book, on the other hand, is a masterpiece of clarity and could well be expanded.

They look like a wholesaler (e.g. sell retail product displays), do they offer mail order to the UK for private boat owner quantities?

I did a lot of wiring, re-wiring last winter, and got Ancor materials from West Marine USA, because I was not able to get what I needed from spanish retailers. Very good service.
I think you'll get it from Index Marine, or Power Store in G.B.

Good luck.
