OK.

What's you idea of the perfect boating song. You know, force 4 on the quarter, chuckle of water at the bow, sun caressing your flowing locks, a glas of something cold in your hand and a song in your head (or on the cockpit speakers if you've gone hitec.)

Please, not Sailing by Rod Stewart or Mull of Kintyre by Macca.

I'll kick off with Song to a Seabird by Joni Mitchell

PS - any guesses as to how long it takes for this to descend to trash rock

Fr**in in the Riggin by the Sex Pistols, and if the weather's at all rough then almost anything by Motorhead. On a quiet night then Neil Young and After the Goldrush.

Yellow submarine (just the chorus repeated ad naseum)... After a few beers, on the way back to the marina to sleep it all off.

Strange that the other boats never want to join in.

Best boating song... I want to marry a lighthouse keeper by erica eigen...as sung in the film A Clockwork Orange.

I want to marry a lighthouse keeper
And live by the side of the sea
I want to marry a lighthouse keeper
And keep him company
I'll polish his lamps by the light of day
So ships at night can find their way
I want to marry a lightouse keeper
Won't that be okay?
We'll take walks along the moonlit bay
Maybe find a treasure, too
I'd love living in a lighthouse
How 'bout you?
I dream of living in a lighthouse, baby,
Every single day
I dream of living in a lighthouse
A white one by the bay
So if you want to make my dreams come true
You'll be a lighthouse keeper, too
We could live in a lighthouse
A white one by the bay
Won't that be okay?

Sailing in a Canaries with a Wind Acceleration Zone making things SO much better! Blue sky, grins that are usually only drug induced /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif shorts and T shirt, 25-30 knots of breeze romping along...And the soundtrack to accompany us? Jimi Hendrix and Voodoo Chile /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif

And we also couldn't turn it up loud enough! /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

Apart from the 2 obvious ones you mentioned, I can only think of one other, "Sloop John B". However I do know some suspect lyrics for the "Sailors Hornpipe", and "All The Nice Girls Love A Sailor"

I'm surprised no one mentioned:

(Chorus)
What shall we do with a drunken sailor,
What shall we do with a drunken sailor,
What shall we do with a drunken sailor
Erlye in the mornin'

Throw him overboard and keehaul him (3x)
Erlye in the mornin'

(Repeat chorus)

Put him in the berth with the captain's daughter (3x)

Etc...

And from there you can make up your own verses ad nauseum

Jolly boating weather
And a hay harvest breeze,
Blade on the feather,
Shade off the trees,
Swing, swing together,
With your bodies between your knees,
Swing, swing together,
With your bodies between your knees.

Er or otherwise, as someone said, Sloop John B
