While on holiday in Menorca in October our daily swim took us around a Monterey speedboat called "On The Fiddle". On one swim the owner and a woman were on board and I enquired about the name-are you a violin player? The answer was negative but left us in little doubt that a certain flamboyance in certain financial areas were involved. Nice One.

Just imagine a mayday call.

I had 'Don't Panic' in the 'large friendly letters' recommended in the 'Hitch Hikers' Guide To The Galaxy' on the bottom of my Scorpion & Osprey dinghies; during a deliberate capsize buoyancy test by the slip a character ran up and photographed us with the Scorpion on her side.

I did see a racing yacht called 'Red Alert', that must have cheered the Coastguard up no end when called on VHF...

A young member at our club had a laser called "Beef Curtains" trouble is he won a trophy & the name got called out at the prize giving, got a bit of a laugh if i remember.
Cheers Phil!!

is it or isn't it

AVOCET II
I remember this name from ages ago and recently wondered whether it is an ornithological reference, or two pugilists having a set to?

A famously vegetarian member of our club named his new Beneteau 'Belle Epoque' but was for ever known to the rest of the club as 'Belly Pork'.
