Best boat kettle?

We had a nice little aluminium one that came with us from our motorboat: big enough for four, folding handle and whistle it fitted in the locker under the cooker when we were on shore power and the electric one came out. Sadly, the handle died and we've had a series of less satisfactory replacements and we'd like a good replacement. The Simplex one reminds me of one my Grandmother had and I'd love one like it but not at that price!

I've just bought this one from Sainsburys : http://www.sainsburys.co.uk/shop/gb/groceries/cooksc-stainless-steel-stove-top-kettle

Price is a snip at £13.33. I actually bought it as a backup for home use after using saucepans to boil water for a week after the last electric one bailed on me. It is not the smallest kettle of its type but the handle does fold down when not in use. Whistle is so-so, might not be very audible above the engine though.

We have an AGA aluminium job. Boils fast, has a loud whistle and can take a few knocks. Had it for ten years and still going strong

Does the handle get hot?

A basic cafetierre is the simplest way of making coffee and probably the easiest to clean. We have broken the odd glass, but never on passage.

I have a double-skinned stainless cafetière. I don't drink the muck myself, but if I didn't have the necessary machinery my other half would never set foot aboard.

Does the handle get hot?

I've only boiled it once to clean it out but it seemed fine and the handle did not get hot. How it would do with repeated boiling (make tea, heat washing up water, preboil for cooking food,...) I don't know. I suppose all all-metal kettles will suffer a bit though.

I searched high and low for a well-made, whistling kettle with a neat flap on the spout. I had a nice one on my old HR352, but the buyers wanted it including in the purchase, so I let it go.

The new one is a Morphy Richards Accents stove-top kettle, made of stainless steel. It has a meaty base, a rubber-insulated handle, and a rubber-insulated flip-top spout. Available in various colours - see http://www.morphyrichards.co.uk/products/Cookware/stove-top-kettles/

The Morphy Richards site says they're £50, but I bought mine on the internet for about £25.
