Anchored up, or on a buoy, what might be the most successful bait to catch something from the stores onboard?

Bit of cheese? Bacon? I just bought some cooked prawns so will give that a go in Queenborough :)

Or can you get decent bait which lasts for ages?

In anticipation....

Try www.shutupandfish.co.uk, loads to choose from, dry bait that doesn't need freezing, just place in water until it swells up, very handy, low cost packets from £1.99 to £4.00, never used it, found it on google, think I will buy some to. Happy fishing, let us all know how you get on.

break up some white bread and then add a tin of sardines in oil or tuna, knead it into a dough and use a knob of that on the hook. If you have enough bread and sardines you can make a looser mix with a bit of seawater and lob handfuls in as groundbait.

no guarantee to catch anything but it passes the time
