Can You please advise on the best antifoul on the market this year.

40ft sailing boat. intend to travel to the med and sail there for a couple of years.

Possibly a yearly liftout for a jetwash.

Coppercoat, except that sometimes for unknown reasons it does not seem to work.

Now you've done it! Don tin hat and prepare for incoming :D

You might as well what's the best religion.

But surely anti-foul is tangible and (apparently) works...

Donning full NBC and retiring to deep cover nuclear bunker

in that case let me re phrase.

what is the best antifoul to top up my already existing antifoul? :)

..some more of your existing antifoul?

By the way, it will also depend on where in the Med you plan to go.
On the European side, the underwater flora and fauna is mainly Roman Catholic, except where it's Greek Orthodox. Garlic works quite well through most of this area, except Greece where a crippling debt and civil unrest best deter unwelcome visitors. Barnacles are becoming very financially savvy out there.
On the African side and in Turkey, it's Muslim, so you'll just need a 40-foot Burka for the hull.
For Israel just chop off the extremity of the bow. This works especially well on powerboats.

Probably best to use what you used before unless you don't know/remember what that was or if there was something wrong with it!

Coppercoat.

Yes, you do need preparation - more or less depending on the existing state of your underwater parts. Once done though, that's it for ten years or so.

Trad antifoul.

Yes, you do need preparation - scraping off or sanding back old, priming flaky patches - but less extensive than for Coppercoat. You then have to repeat every year for ten years. Plus buy gloop every year. Go figure.

Whatever antifoul you decide to use, bring some with you as prices in Spain, Portugal and elsewhere are crazy expensive. I've been using Jotun Seaforce 30 for several years and find it works well in warm waters.

Go for a Jotun product, Sea force or Sea Queen. But.. prepare the surface well first time scrape of and prime any flaking, wet key the surface, then fianl wipe it all over with the appropriate thinners just before you paint. Having tried many types, Seaqueen has been the best.

Micron 77 - expensive but very good (designed for superyachts that don't get hauled regularly).

My last lot was put on in August 2010 and it's still working now (other than a bit of weed growth at the waterline which scrubs off easily).

Works well in warmer water (was put on in the Caribbean. They reckon it's the only stuff that works over there).

It's about £250 for a 5 litre pot though, so with primers, you'll be £1,000 to do it.

Nah Seahawk Islannds 44 with extra tin booster keeps the barnacles at bay longest.

Surprised you did not Coppercoat from new. Incremental cost at that point over normal AF is small, retro high because of the stripping and preparation.

Suggest Jotun Seaqueen. Seems at least as effective as the best from the big boys and half the price. Probably worth putting on their primer as a barrier coat, but even with that still cheaper and should get at least 2 years.
