I've just connected up a camera to my boat android. Seems to work well but not sure how usefull it will be. It's a cheap reversing camera and unfortunately the display is a mirror image. The existing app can't reverse it. I was wondering if there any good free video camera apps suitable for boat use with this feature. Also looking for an FM radio app which will display station names on the selector buttons. Mine displays station name on the main screen but present buttons only show frequency.

Just in case it helps anyone else. I cut the plugs off my camera, a generic cheap forward view camera, to hard wire it without realising the little moulded cable junction also contains some electronics to drop the voltage. The camera didn't like 12V.

The android is one of those car units. It's fixed above the chart table. Running Navionics and memory map as well as playing music, FM radio, web browsing and walking maps. I just thought it's a pity not to use the video function. The camera is half way up the mast as it's a nice view from there. It's just a bit of fun really. Might put one on a stick so I can see underwater too. The cheap ones from Amazon seem pretty good if you don't mess up the wiring.

Ahhhh yes ... now I remember you posting about these units before.

Underwater ... I have a camera system for fishing ... which has a 30m wire to a WiFi unit ....

I used it to view my prop when I had a rope and load of weeds tangled on it ... was it good ? Actually it helped but you really need clear water to see well ...
The WiFi box is rechargeable and my Smartphone / tablet gets the video.

Hereš the video ... note the muddy murky water ...
