Best anchor light ever

I really don't know. In theory, I'd expect unclear heading/intentions to complicate the process of avoidance, but leave it possible.

Think of it this way. You are in a 26' yacht, becalmed and without electricity, floating helplessly at the entrance to a harbour. A large ship has appeared and is heading for your port side. All you have is a bright blue (don't ask me why - this is my scenario) torch. Would you rather show it to the oncoming vessel, in defiance of the IRPCS, or not?

NB I declare a commercial interest here. Personally I think a yachting mag would have a wonderful time interviewing me and discovering my really good boaty inventions (after I forked out a few £k to patent them - would only bother with UK - everything gets copied eventually)

Anyway...
Ok, since my last post I have made an optional modification to the anchor light I sell. It will now be available for sale with an optional in line switch (very user friendly) to provide dimming and also various VERY ATTENTION GRABBING strobe effects. I will sell it as an optional extra for £7 to begin with (won't make any profit to begin with).

Anyway here is a video I just took with my 'phone in't garden: (give it a few mins to upload) Warning, some flashing lights demonstrated.

I am getting a friend to build a much nicer website, but for now, here it is: www.newboatgear.co.uk

The best feature is it allows one to dim the light.

If some horrible tanker is a few miles off and you wish to ensure they pay a bit more attention, there are a few strobe effects built in and one can control the speed of them with the switch. Not a very good video, but I've been working on the switch all day and only had time for a quick video. It is still uploading as we speak.

I think that they actually do one in blue .... but perhaps it's illegal to sell it in the UK?

Richard

No I am sure that it is perfectly legal to sell but illegal to use on a highway, so no one s going to sell it because if lack of demand. On a boat you won't fall foul of plod but you won't comply with collregs.

The red strobing thing (for less than £10) could be a competitor for the ODEO flare that somehow has won awards left right and centre and been sold onto Ocean Safety I think (meaning the inventor is probably ok for a bit of cash).

The Aldi / Lidl light even fits in one's pocket.

SWMBO bought me one of these which she spotted in the end-of-line bargain bin in Lidl for a couple of quid last week.

I was amazed at the brightness when I turned it on .... full power is dazzling but it has half-power as well. It has 14 different light patterns as in the video, including SOS, and a really strong magnet base as well as as fixing loop and it's waterproof.

You'll see me from miles away! :)

Richard

Bought one a while ago which is kept in the grab bag. Very attention grabbing. Hope that I never use it!!!
