Best 6hp new outboard?

We bought a Yam after research at boat show and speaking to Ron hale (now sadly departed) . Ideally a secondhand 9hp two stroke but the weight of 4/5/or 6 hp doesn’t vary much -all are heavy compared to your2 stroke 3.3hp type . Do you intend to plane with this outboard?

They are both 4 strokes - auxiliaries in wells - Don't intend to plane without the sails up.

Interesting #17 comment on the Yamaha as I always thought they were the best.

2 strokes with unknown history getting a bit old now. Bought one but it didn't last long and parts can be a bit of a problem.

We’ve had no issues with our Yam apart from weight but outboard crane helps lowing to tender but by sounds of it this is intended to be a fixed installation. You would need a separate tank so whatever you choose check it has this facility.

If it’s to power a large heavy boat slowly you need a totally different outboard to a small rib fast.

So a normal outboard on a rib - a sail power or high-thrust on the larger heavier boat as you need thrust not speed
